Personal Training
Mission Statement
To assess and identify a person’s physical and mental limitations and depending on the findings, create a structured plan of action to move someone to a position of physical capability according to their personal goals in life or in sport.
What is personal training?
Personal training is where you work one to one with a personal trainer, who helps you to exercise in a supervised and safe environment. A personal trainer will also discuss your current lifestyle and current health issues and coach you to make different choices to reach your desired goal.
How does personal training work?
The main aim of personal training is to assist you in moving from where you are now to where you want to be. Most people want to be pain free, illness free and feel full of energy and motivation every day, not to mention a little bit slimmer.
It is important that you don’t see personal training as something you have to do forever. Our job is to help you to change your lifestyle habits in an informed, supportive and fun environment so that you don’t need personal training any more. Our role is complete when you are able to motivate, monitor and evaluate yourself according to your own health and fitness goals and desires.
To do this we work with you on Four Key Elements to achieve Health and Fitness Success. Each one is vital and dependent on the other three for true success.
Model of Weight/Fat Loss Success

1. Exercise and movement
There are two types of exercise, exercise for your muscles (resistance work) and exercise for your heart (cardiovascular work). Personal training focused on both of these in balance. The key aim here is to find out what level of ability you are and then move to towards a higher level.
A good personal trainer will be able to identify your current personal level, measure this and then move you forward with the ideal amount of stimulus for the body to respond well to.
One of the key protocols we have is a called a body diagnostic. This will highlight any current issues and potential issue you have with your body for example Shoulder, Back, Neck, Hip or Knee Pain. Once an issue has been highlighted the aim is to work with your body in order to correct it.
This, in essence is what personal training is about. Many people we work with will have already been a gym member and will have left due to injury after a short period of time. The sad thing is that they will never reach their goal and assume that exercising is dangerous. In fact, these are the types of people who need personal training, they just need a little bit of extra help, support and direction and then they are off.
If the personal trainer is good enough to work with your weakest links (i.e. the areas of the body that always hold you back) then you will be able to see benefits that you never thought possible.

2. Nutrition and food
It doesn’t really matter how hard you work in the gym if you don’t have your nutrition right then it is always going to be hard work to achieve true health and fitness success. The single most important present you can give your body is the right food and drink. This really is the foundation of what your body is made up of.
It is important to note here that everybody is totally different, so it is no good talking to your mates about how they have lost weight, because for you, a completely different approach might apply.
We work with you on your nutrition and food choices to make sure that you are on the health track. By identifying the correct food for your body and no one else’s we can make sure that your symptoms are reduced and that your body is given the best opportunity to repair itself. We also run a six week nutrition course which will give you more information about our approach to nutrition.
3. Mentality
Your current psychology is the reason why you are where you are right now and not where you want to be. It is impossible to create permanent long term change in behaviour without first changing your psychology. We work with you on your current belief system and help you to understand what is holding you back from achieving your health and fitness goals.
Your attitudes and beliefs towards your exercise, nutrition and support structure is fundamental in determining the amount of success you will have with your health and fitness.

4. Social Support Structure
The social support structure is extremely important and not to be underestimated. Friends, family and other important people in your life play a massive part in the person that you are today and the person that you will become tomorrow. With the greatest will in the world to achieve a goal, it will be hard unless you have a strong supportive environment in which to achieve it.
A personal trainer provides that environment for change and helps you to deal with other areas of your life where support is not so prevalent.
Our group activities provide a great atmosphere for this sort of support network, whereby all the members of the group have shared goals and experiences, the effect of which is extremely powerful. Look at Personal Nutrition and Bootcamp for more information on our group activities.
As a personal training client of ours you will automatically be welcome and included as part of all the social events in our calendar.
